It is very important to always know what to do in case of an emergency. It can save lives to be prepared. While walking down the street one day, my wife mistook the sound of a car back firing for the sound of a gun shot. She immediately went into action. She grabbed my arm and screamed “ everyone, STOP, DROP and Roll !”
As a father, I try to teach my children the best way I know how. When my son turned two (2), he and my daughter found it an enjoyable exercise to run wildly around the house.
Since my son does everything his sister does, I explained to my little girl that I wanted her to walk, not run in the house. It was a dangerous and unsafe thing to do, that is how people get hurt. If your running you can easily run into something and seriously get hurt.
Feeling sure she understood what I was telling her, I turned around and walked straight into the closed glass porch door....
We decided to play this new game my mother-in-law bought. You had to give clues to a specific thing, name, or place with out using descriptions shown on the clue card. It was going well - Until my wife became flustered and resistant. She was too embarrassed, because her father was present. I convinced her to show me the card. It read “Horny Animals”. I asked her “what’s wrong with this?” - “ I am not going to talk to my father about “HORNY” animals! “ she said. And I told her “horny animals” as in animals with “Horns”.
We have two children and my daughter has always been very smart. So when my son was born my wife was very concerned. Our son was already two years old and wasn’t even doing half the things my daughter did at his age. One day my wife was watching me teach my son his alphabet’s and she looked at me and said “ this may sound bad but I hope my son is smart?” and my son got up and said ”me too”.
Technology and the internet is simply taking over every aspect of life. I tried to apply for a job and found that many companies have moved the application process online. I spent about 40 minutes filling out an online application and a survey - in order to apply for a job. I was excited that in an instant I was given a location, a time and date for an interview. I thought this was great! I thought it was easy, this is wonderful! The day of the interview came, I arrive at the location on time, knocked on the human resource door and a few minutes latter, found that the human resource guy was not in today. So much for technology making my life easy?
Things sort of become a blur when your so busy to take a moments breath.
Let’s just give you a glimpse of what I mean - starting Friday morning - woke up and got the kids ready, took them to school, drove back home and took care of some things. Then I set up the tent in the back yard for my daughters sleep over party - rushed over to pick up my son at school at eleven thirty. Then drive all the way home to prepare his lunch , change his cloth and prepare for work. Drive him over to my brother-in-law’s house and off to work. After getting out of work at 8:35 pm, I drove home to eat, play with the kids and help my daughter start building her school model project.
I went to bed around eleven thirty and woke up early Saturday to get myself and my son ready for his school friend birthday party. I like these people - even though it was raining, they had the birthday party. So I help by holding an umbrella over the grill to help cook the food [ after all I wanted the free food ] after food, cake and the present - I was out of there.
Got home around eleven thirty in the afternoon - to deal with the screaming boob twins [ my daughter and her friend playing dress up ] and then learned I had to move the tent from where is was to the other side of the backyard. It is now 3:57 pm and I’m trying to take a moment - except my mother just called so I’m probably going to be on the phone for an hour or so and by the time I’m done talking to her I’ll have to help finish my little girl build her model and do something or other for my son or wife..
Longest week end ever...

I was made to love you
Ever wonder what you were made to do in life? I figured out a long time ago that I have one very important job, position, duty in life - to love my family. Yes there may be the occasional argument. Yes, they can be a chore and a pain - at times [ too many times ]. They can even cause you to wonder why you even bother - but at the end of the day when you put them to bed and all you can think about is how sweet they are and how you can’t help but smile as you watch them sleep peacefully in their bed... You realize - you were made to love them.
Here I was happy to have a day off where I could hang out, do as I pleased and in fact - was happy to go and pick up my four year old son from pre-k school. But boy was I in for a surprise. I go and pick him up a half hour earlier than his scheduled time - out of love [ or because I didn’t want to waste the gas driving back and forth - you judge ] and when I signed him out early - he only had one thing to ask of me...
Why are you not working???
What, did I hear you right? So I asked him, what do you mean… and he said.. What are you doing home, aren’t you working today??
Hey, come on - can’t a dad get a break… It’s my day off and I want to spend it with you. Why would you want to bring up work and are you trying to get rid of me kid??? Come on, maybe the next time I have a day off I’ll just disappear and not come home - see if you like that one buddy.
Life is so strange - and kids their even stranger. Imagine that - a four year old telling me why aren’t I at work. Hey get a job and lets see how you’d like it. I need my day off, I need my kids, my wife, my time alone from the insanity [ too late, I think I just lost my marbles.....]
It’s weird, maybe I’m not the typical dad or parent that rushes out the door screaming “yeah, I can get away from my kids now!”.. no offense… But I am close to my kids and I’ve been working 6 days a week at different hours of the day and between school and work - I haven’t been able to spend real quality time with my kids. I guess the real reason I’m upset is because today the first Saturday I have off to be with the kids [ and mow lawn and do home work… grrr...] my son is sick and my duaghter just wants to visit her friend…??? Hey, what about Dad?
I was just taking a moment to look over some photos as I try to recover from my depression - take a look below..
Kids - can’t live without them and they can’t wait to abandon you....
'Meet the Press' transcript for Sept. 7, 2008
From Sunday's Televised 'Meet the Press' Senator Obama was asked about his stance on the American Flag. Obama Explains National Anthem Stance
Sun, 07 Sept. 2008 11:48:04 EST, General Bill Ginn ' USAF (ret.) asked Obama to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.
The General also stated to the Senator that according to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171... During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. At the very least, 'Stand and Face It'
Senator Obama Live on Sunday states, 'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides, Obama said.
'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it. 'We should consider to reinvent our National Anthem as well as to redesign our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love. My wife disrespects the Flag for many personal reasons. Together she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past, many years ago. She has her views and I have mine'.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you heard it right. This could possibly be our next President.
I, for one, am speechless.
Well, I haven’t been able to write much about the crazy things that happen with my family, I’ve been busy working and my hours are speratic. One day I work mornings the next night - it’s crazy. But I just had to take the time to write this down.
You know that everything you buy has a manufacturer guidelines, rules and all that. It’s there to keep you from doing something that would end up hurting you. Well, I broke the rules in order to help my little boy from getting hurt. Really - I broke the rules to protect my child?
Well, the thing is my son wants to ride his bike without training wheels - unlike his sister who took several years up to the age of seven or eight to learn how to ride with out training wheels - he wants to be like her, compete with her and wants to learn how to ride his bike without training wheels. Ofcourse he is only four years old and learning will be tough - but my real problem is, I don’t want him to fall down and get hurt. Don’t get me wrong, this boy is a rock and an adventurer - I just know he is not ready and a trip to the emergency room I do not want.
So I took his training wheels which are the only kind that fit his small bike and do not move [ rise or adjust to lift off ground ] and I began to bang, hit, pound with rubber mallet and Hammer to bend it to an appropriate curve so he could ride his bike and get the feel for balancing the bike. It was funny, because here I am banging on his wheels [ his bike in his mind ] with a hammer and telling him - not to do what daddy is doing....
After I thought about it, I remembered that the last time he saw me use tools he went around the house unscrewing everything in sight - God I hope he doesn’t go around hammering everything in the house ? ! ...
When I finally got the training wheels the way I wanted them we took’em for a spin - it took him awhile to stop leaning over and depending on the training wheels - but when he started getting it he was ecstatic - he was already proclaiming that he could ride just like his sister... Hold on there buddy, lets learn how to make a right hand turn first.
How do you make politics simple enough for an eleven year old to understand - turn the TV off!
Really, it’s hard enough explaining life and the every day things to your kids - why would a teacher give my child an extra credit assignment that requires her to stay up late past her bed time to watch something she has no knowledge or concept of?
I was going to watch the Vice Presidential debate anyway - but it’s hard to really listen to the debate when your eleven year old child who wants to do good in school is asking you “what does that mean?” “why did they say that?”. How can I hear the issues when I’m busy explaining to my child why Biden said he opposes fraud from the mortgage companies, the big oil companies and how Obama will stop that [ despite that fact that Obama was taking kick backs from Freddie Mac and Fannie May when they were committing the fraud???] But hey - thank you teacher for making my day a bit more interesting!
One good thing came out of last nights debate as I watched it with my daughter - My daughter understood and felt more comfortable with Sarah Palin than she did with stuffy Biden who was talking above the people [ the voters ] trying to impress the news media and the big wigs in congress as he consistently bashed McCain.
Let me point one thing out - Obama and Biden are for change - yet they continue to act the same... meaning business as usual... where is the change?... He avoided several questions [ so did Palin ] but his course was not to avoid the question because he didn’t know the answer - but rather he wanted to take the time to bash McCain, according to Biden everything is Bush and McCains fualt like if congress had no say in anything?.... Even my little girl got that much.
In the end my daughter fell asleep when it came to the foreign policies as I expected - but in the morning as we finished her extra credit report she said this - I like Sarah Palin, she was better at communicating to me, she was relaxed and friendly. Well McCain and Palin have one vote in me and an eleven year olds approval.
The odd thing is he takes his command so seriously - I mean he is only four years old and he is concerned about the men that follow him in the game. He has figured out that they can die and that he can do something to save and protect them. He just insist on making sure his fellow soldiers are doing good. He doesn't want to go to the next level unless he can protect his fellow men [ and women - they have female characters in the game]. The odd thing is, when he plays as the alien, he doesn't care who dies - his fellow alien horde could drop by the thousands and he lets them - but let one of his fellow human being soldiers fall and he wants to reset the game so he can figure out a way to keep that soldier alive.
My little commander in chief - you go boy - save the universe, dad will sit and watch.....
