What do you give a football fan as birthday Gift - ACC championship seats !

My son has become a big Football fan - he doen't care if it is college or nfl, he just likes football. So this year he has been counting down the days till christmas, his birthday and the ACC college Football championship game held in Tampa Bay stadium.

Personally, I have been been to a game [ live ] - I prefer watching my games on TV where there are no lines to the bathroom, no drunks and I don't worry about the weather. But he really wanted to go - and we had a blast!

ACC College Footbal Championship !!!

The best thing about being there live was the Pre-game show [ missed the opportunity to take pictures of the guys who parachuted down to the field ]. The bad thing about being there live - idiots who keep blocking my sons view - {#&*+&^#@!!!!!} - go home you drunks.

Ofcourse we had to have our own after game party at the Hotel, you know we roll like that - check out my son, his team won !!!

Banned From McDonalds ??? Oh NO!!!!!

As I did some of my Christmas shopping today - mostly for the wife [ took kids to get mom a gift ] I decided to forgo my doctors orders and eat at my favorite fast food place - [ say it with me ] "McDonalds.... just rolls of the tongue.... :)

So, I went into McDonalds and as I stood in line waiting for 12 minutes as a single man argued with the manager about McDonalds charging him .30 cents extra for extra onions on his dollar hamburger.

banned from mcdonaldsThe manager explained to the customer that it was corporate policy and not just this one stores policy - but the man continued to insist that he always gets extra onions for free. As I waited surprised at how this man really was making an as* of himself [ or maybe it was because I was hungry and wanted to push him out of my way ] but finally the manager gave him the number to McDonalds corporate 1-800 number.

So he finally stepped aside [ so I can make my order ] to call the corporate office. As I made my order he came back to the manager and again started to complain - so the manager got on the phone with corporate and then gave the man a free cup of water and escorted him out.

As I picked up my food the manager came in and informed the staff that if that man were ever to come back to this McDonalds that they were instructed to ask him to leave and if he refused - to call the police on him.

Ofcourse the whole situation was an ordeal for me, but the free sundae the manager gave me for being so patient so long helped me recover nicely... :)

children facing a Socialist America

Freedom - people think your nuts when you tell them that we're losing it. They think that it's great that government is getting bigger becuase government will take care of us [ that is the us that don't work, pay taxes and want to be given everything free paid by the so called rich ].

The democrats [ 2009 ] are fighting over Health care reform ... Government messed medicare, abused social security into bankruptcy and tax the poor harsher than the rich. yet they want us to believe they know how to handle health care.... seems like the creator of this 1948 cartoon new better than many of us today.

an Army of one 5 yr old

Here I was dragged to the mall, not just any mall but the mall in the next county. Tired, disgusted and broke.... my wife decides to tell me while on our long trip home that we need to make a stop ???

For what?
Oh to take some pictures of your son on a tank?

what??? tank, pictures, why??
I dressed him up and I have the camera, we might as well.

No, not really, [ was what I was thinking....] but my son already started gleefully shouting "yeah dad, I have to...".

So stop I did. The strange thing is, my wife’s biggest concern is that my son will join one of the branches of the Armed forces - but she is also the one encouraging him by buying him everything Army or having him visit tanks....

I have to say, though I was tired [ disgusted and broke ] I did enjoy taking the pictures, watching the excitement in my little boys eyes as he got on the tank, looked at all the parts and pretended to be blowing up Canada ???

Still don't know?

Pre-schoolers all over the United States
were shown this picture asked the same question.
90% of the pre-schooler's gave this answer.
'The bus is traveling to the left.'

When asked, 'Why do you think the bus is traveling to the left?'

They answered:

'Because you can't see the door to get on the bus.'

Halloween - How to make a cake look like a Pumpkin [ not a recipe ]

halloween recipe
How to make a cake look like a Pumpkin !
Oh, Halloween - the scariest day [ night ] of the year.
In time past me and the ball and chain would have gone to universals Halloween horror nights, a stroll thru old town with all the whacko’s or simply watched a very scary movie [ and then got busy .... :) - did I say that out loud?] .

But when you have children you have to temper your ways and make the scariest night of the year - a bit more child friendly… whoopee… So, a Halloween party it is. Go “trick a treating”, dress up [ I dressed up as Clark Kent ( superman’s secret identity ) on vacation [ check it out, I think it was creative] .

halloween women are strongerOfcourse my family outing turned into a reason to invite four of my daughters friends to come to the party and to top it off - sleep over as well [ talk about cackling witches - scary ]. I believe the night truly was a big success [ thank you Annie - for inviting us and your decorating skills are great! ]

The girls had fun, all the kids went "trick-a-treating" and the adults actually had a fun time talking, taking pictures and scaring the kids [ loved it ]. Despite the mess in the kitchen - I loved the cake my ball and chain made, it tasted good and looked great. It was a pumpkin - hard to make but looked awesome.

How to make a pumpkin shaped cake:
halloween recipe cake

1- Take a bunt cake pan and make two cakes
[ use your choice of recipe ]
2- remove baked cakes from pans and cut top of cake flat
3- decide which cake should be the top and which should be bottom
4- use a filling [ thin layer ] simply to hold two pieces together
5- used a ice cream cone [ with flat bottom ] as stem
6- decorate to look like pumpkin

* can’t use fondant because you lose the curves necessary to make it look like a pumpkin - so use icing [ it will take practice ].

Tell Me that don't look Good

Trust me "Chuky" is not the scariest of the Bunch !

5 yr old already going steady ???? funny children dating

Here I was, getting everything ready for school:
children dating parenting advice
* 5 yr old bathed and dressed [ checked ]
* brushed his teeth [ checked ]
* lunch for school ready [ checked ]
* gold ring for girlfriend [checked - what ?????]

That is right, I found a gold ring [ costume jewelry ] amongst my 5 year olds things as I was getting him ready to go to school. When I asked him about it - he smiled and slowly told me it was for his girlfriend ... his girlfriend?

First I wanted to be proud - my boy is a stud...
then I thought, what the heck he is only five...
then I thought again - what a stud....
then back to, who the heck told him to give the girl a ring ????

children to young for datingI thought it was bad when he would occassionally mention that he liked a girl in school. Hey, all kids say that. Then one day he said he had a girlfriend [ ok not too bad, everyday it was a different girls name so it can't be too serious ]

But a ring, who the heck gives a girl a ring at age five. For goodness sake it wasn't until I was 10 that I gave a serious gift to a girl I liked and it was just perfume - not a ring?

Geez, hopefully it's nothing, but kids sure want to grow up fast now a days. Next he'll be probably asking to borrow the car to go on a date....

When you thought I wasn't looking

A message every adult should read because children
are watching you and doing as you do, not as you say.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you hang my
first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately
wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you feed a
stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind
to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make my
favorite cake for me, and I learned that the little
things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn't looking I heard you say a
prayer, and I knew that there is a God I could always
talk to, and I learned to trust in Him.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make a
meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I
learned that we all have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you take care
of our house and everyone in it, and I learned we have
to take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw how you
handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't
feel good, and I learned that I would have to be
responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw tears come
from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things
hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw that you
cared, and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking I learned most of
Life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and
productive person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking I looked at you and
wanted to say, 'Thanks for all the things I saw when
you thought I wasn't looking'

Woman not stronger - men just stupid

Woman not stronger - men just stupid

I found a leak in the master bath [ sink ]. It wasn’t bad but enough to eventually do some damage. So I put a bucket under the sink and proceeded to make sure I knew exactly what was broken, what needed to be replace and of course don’t spend a lot of money [ if you remember my water heater experience - that was a mess ].

So after figuring it all out [ I thought] I told my wife that I was off to home depot.
She responded by saying:

“ you don’t love me like you use to anymore.”

What? What was she talking about? Where did this come from, what did this have to do with the leak?

She continued “ Before if I asked you for something you would do what ever you could to get it for me, now you don’t. it’s like you don’t love me any more…” sob, tear, …

I’m not sure how it happened but my dilemma with the leak became a test of my love for my wife. I thought fixing the pipe was an example of my love, you didn’t have to tell me three hundred times to fix it? You didn’t have to fix it yourself? How does this in any way means I don’t love you.

men dumbThen she told me about the perfect faucet that she wanted, that she has been wanting for a long time. I put my foot down, no, uh uh, I’m not spending any more money than I have to. We’re on a tight budget.

Ofcourse when I got to home depot, got my parts, saw a faucet my wife would love…. Idiot, weak me bought it. I put it up and everything. I got one huge, one kiss and now she is asking for something else….. But atleast the job looks good.

Kids, more kids and no time

kids football
Kids, more kids and no time.
It’s been a while since my last post. Not because my life is boring but because it’s so consumed with the things that have to be done. School started so last more running around - books, taking them to school, homework, friends coming over to visit more darn home work. If that’s not enough - my wife decides to put my five year old son in flag football. Oh geez….

Look I think it’s great that he is getting involved, has a place outside of school to rough house and make friends. The practices are good for his health it’s just so darn time consuming and some of those sports mom and dad are nuts. Really - whackos, just plain whack jobs.

flag footballThe first day I was able to leave work early to go to one of my sons practices - proved to me that this was going to be a waste of my time. First I sat at the side of the field watching the kids play and then practice… I love my son, but I could have been doing something more productive. Then I had a mom and dad sitting next to me that were screaming their heads off. No, not screaming encouragement but insults to their own ten year old son.

You worthless pile of sh*t!
Stop crying and get up you bumb!
Damn your so lazy, piece of crap!

And it only got worse from there on. I mean really, the kid is ten years old, over weight, has twenty pounds of equipment on him and the best dad can say is - you piece of sh*t ! ok, dad, love you too.

Look, I understand you get caught up in wanting your kid to do good - I feel the same way when I see my son goof off at practice… they nick named him “ninja” because he starts pretending to do karate when he should be paying attention - but I’m not going to call him worthless… I may not find it entertaining to sit there in the sun watching five years olds try and play flag football. I do like it when we go home and he wants to sit with me and watch pro football on TV. I even like it when he says that he wants to be a professional football player when he gets big [ even thou I know he is just saying that cause that’s what little boys do]. I love the fact that he is making friends and staying active…

I just wish they wouldn’t go so over board with all the practices and a game every single Saturday - come on, my life is full of things to do - relax people it’s just a game.

New Water Heater at Home Depot... oh God help me...

Replacing the Water Heater - funny story, don’t laugh

The water heater went out and it needed replacing. Ofcourse, I was told that all that needed to be done was replace the heating elements on the water heater… no problem, sounds easy……Not !

water heaterI bought the heating elements for the water heater - and found out it was the wrong kind.. Returned to home depot to get the right heating elements for my water heater… did it work…. No !

So finally after 5 weeks of being unable to go to home depot to by a whole water heating unit [ and suffering many a cold showers ] I finally was able to go get a brand new water heater - even 10 gallons bigger than my old one.

So you want to hear a joke?

How many trips to home depot does it take to replace one water heater?

Apparently four trips... One to by the water heater unit.
water heaterAnother to get the pipe fittings. A third to get the right pipe fittings and a fourth trip to get the pressure release pipe and fittings. Thank God it only took one time to actually take out the old unit and put in the new water heating unit.

Really, this day has been an adventure… thank God for the home depot lady that helped me… [ sorry I can’t remember your name ] But if I would have kept doing this on my own… it would have taken me 15 or so trips to home depot to replace my broken water heater. Really, they should sell a kit for dummies that brings everything in it.

Now I just have to find time to return some of these unwanted pipes and fittings that I have left over….One more trip to home depot family, lets go....

Say Good Bye to the old water heater kids..

Making money is not evil, being in debt and poor is evil..

Making Money is not evil - being poor is evil...
It’s a quote from a book I just finish reading : Cashflow Quadrant: Rich Dad Poor Dad.
It’s an interesting read - I know I’ve read it twice and the reason why I bring up this topic “Making Money” is because of the economy. Really - I look at my kids and I wonder … have I wasted my life. Have I been so busy in the pursuit of my own happiness that I can’t offer more for my children because I thought wanting to make more money was “evil”… or maybe because I was scared or too lazy to try?

This kind of book - how to make money or the mentality behind it really makes you think.

making money is not evilYes I know - I’m not trying to make it rich or even become rich over night. But I do have that urge to do more, make a little extra so my kids can have it easy. If anything - learn a couple of money managing or wealth building skills I could teach my kids so they don’t end up like dear old dad - a slave to a job - always wondering if this recession or hard time will destroy all my dreams [ if I have any ].

What parent doesn’t want the best for their kids and who doesn’t dream of “making money effortlessly” … I mean seriously! It’s not like it can’t be done - People today are making money sitting at home. You have people who make six figure incomes because they came up with some lame application for the iphone that millions just had to buy.

The other reason I bring up the “money and how to make it” plus the mentality behind how you think and spend your money - is because of my loving wife. We are on opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to money. I am more of a saver thinking of tomorrow and she is more of a “lets have fun today before we die tomorrow” kind of person. Which really makes it difficult when it comes to money and our finances.

I’m trying to get my daughter to read - Rich Dad Poor Dad
, by Robert T. Kiyosaki…
Not because I want her to be money hungry but rather I want her to think differently when it comes to money. In today’s economic crisis - millions of people are learning that having a job is not having security. We are all learning that depending on the government truly is more riskier than playing the stock market.

Wanting Better for your Kids Financially

Really is it bad to want better for your kids, financially speaking? Or maybe just the chance to change the way your kids look and think about money and how it works. I went to the book store yesterday and saw hundreds of posters and stickers about “buy 2 get one free” deals. Everyone is hurting in this economy - but the wealthy or smart people weather it better because they have options and a deferent mind set - as where regular people like me are stuck making money [income] at a dead end job. If you love your job, career hey that’s great. But when the kids ask for toys, milk or an unexpected expense comes along that breaks your bank - you only have X amount of dollars to work with because your boss is not going to give you a raise.

I watch the gas pump like a hawk [ not that it does me any good ] and at my job [ where I make most of my money after taxes ] I see people purchase with the gas pump in mind. I mean that people will say things like - “I have to watch my pennies, gas is too high”. Why, because even with a job - we live on a fixed income and every time gas goes up, food prices go up - our dollar [ spending power ] drops.

No I don’t want my kids to be greedy make money at all cost kind of people. But I do want them to think different, see the world different. Have the insight to take educated risk and plan wisely for the future. Rather than be like dad and save , save , save and be no farther ahead than I was 20 years ago. Or worse - be like Mom and millions of other Americans who live for today and now 20 years later still can’t see that their no better off than they were before.

Growing old and finding out that making money was important

I watch my father in-law who only has a year to go before he retires at age 50. It’s great that he has a job that gives him that ability - but he wonders if he could afford to retire. He is concerned with the fact that the money he makes, the money he saved, … will it be enough for him to live a comfortable life? I listen to him and wonder - what will I be thinking, doing when it’s time for me to retire - will I be able to retire?

Do I want my kids to do the same or can I teach them to do things, think in ways that will better them in the long run. That when they reach age 40, or 50 they could retire with little worries and if they work, it’s because they want to - not because they need to make money in order to survive.

I'm not talking making them into millionairs - just better off than me.

4th July week end re-cap

Sorry I'm late with my 4th of July antics - I wasn't sure if I should post it. It really was a wacky kind of time.

To start with I had to work that Saturday - which was bad enough - but in the morning before I left for work - my wife calls me all franticly. Apparently my neighbor was sprawled across the ground in his driveway. First I thought he was dead - then possibly hurt - but no, he was drunk. So I had to help in into his house... Nice start to my week end.
Then on Sunday we went to the beach { I hate the sun } and as I tried to enjoy myself, thou concerned about my sons safety as he carelessly played in the water with large waves batting him around - we experience a scene with a lost kid. The kid was about 3 yrs old and people were making a big scene. Ofcourse the dad showed up just in time to stop the local authority from taking his kid away [ 50 minutes later ] goodness gracious.

And my wife wonders why I am so over protective of my kids... a drunk next door, missing kids - sure why not ignore the dangers of this life... we can always make more kids - right honey .....LOL

Islands of Adventure Florida

Islands Of Anventure

Islands of Adventure FloridaYep - Free Islands of Adventure tickets, so we just had to go. Or atleast that’s what I was told. Well free didn’t turn out to be so free - after the tolls, parking, eating and extra tickets - I spent more than I should have at this wonderful “Islands of Adventure” Florida theme park.

Ok, my son had a blast at Islands of Adventure and I got badly sun burned but hey, this is what happy memories [ and skin cancer] is all about. Let me give you a hint - it’s great to have the two park pass - yes it maybe a bit more expensive - but in the end, it pays off. In my case - around 3 o’clock after I was good and toasty [ burned from walking around Islands of Adventure that offers very little in the shade department ] my wife said “let’s go over to the other park [ Universal ] and play in the children’s water area [ best idea she’s had all day ].

God I was so happy to sit under a water fall and have that nice cool water cool me off. They even had fans blowing - you know where I sat - right under those fans. My son ofcourse ran himself ragged running from water area to water area - even made me go into an indoor area where you had air cannons that shot balls at people. Ofcourse I had to get the balls and the whacks to give my son ammo.

The heat really got to my little boy because on our way home - he was out like a light. But all in all it’s a nice park - I prefer Universal Studios over Islands of adventure - but hey- my son will remember it as a happy family memory.

Transformers 2: revenge of the fallen

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

If your an old time fan of Transformers [ the old cartoon TV show ] and you loved the first movie "Transformers" - you better drag yourself down to the local movie theater and watch this thing on a big screen.

transformers 2This was a Father and Son outing. With my son, I normally go to the theater during the matinee hours. In my town, it’s usually just me and five other people in the audience - today the house was packed and man let me tell you this movie was filled with action, explosions, drama and good laughs. Let me tell you I was not embarrassed to laugh out loud.

I loved the fact that my son was automatically in a trance thru the whole movie.
“Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen “ is a good movie don’t let anyone fool you. It has it all - parents can enjoy it, the kids can enjoy it and if your not a Sci Fi kind of person - transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will make you laugh and will leave you wanting to see more.

This was one of the few times it was just me and my son going out to a movie - I was concerned it would be to scary or too loud [ the kid hates loud movies ] But he loves soldiers, tanks and fight scenes. Man he was drooling over the combat scenes with all the explosions and action.

Yes, if you’re an old fan of the original Transformers TV cartoon series - you know things are not the same. But then again, they have made so many re-vamps to that series that nothing can truly hold up to the original. But all in all this was a good movie. And again - Best seen in a theater with a large screen and loud surround sound…. Look out Optimus Prime ....

STUCK ! on Bush Gardens ride

florida family vacationSTUCK in Bush Gardens Ride

That’s right - stuck in a Bush Gardens ride. Serves them right. Yes even though it makes for a great post - I’m upset that I was stuck at work while my son & wife went off to play at Bush Gardens. I would like to thank “Miss Eli” for the free tickets and for my Brother-in-law for taking them. But man, I missed all the fun. I hear my son had a grand old time and he even got to ride in front with the conductor on a ride [ of course that’s the ride that got stuck ].
Luckily we have video ladies and gents….

Below here are some pic’s of the short Family vacation.
Although the tickets were free I still had to shell out some cash for the family to eat, buy trinkets and have fun. Man, some one in my family should say thank you.
