Multicolored Meringues - Fun food recipe

Another recipe for you and your kids to make.
Life should be filled with spice and color. Since the spice is for the adults - the kids can have fun with colorful food that is fun to make and eat. Look out with this one, you have to have a bit of fun with this one - no down n outers on this dilicious dish.

Multicolored Meringues
Choose any colors you like, but use food coloring sparingly. One drop at a time.

multicolored meringues fun food recipe
To make: 50 minutes
To bake: 30-35 minutes (+ 45 minutes cooling in oven)

You Will Need:
3 egg whites (medium)
3/4 cups superfine sugar
1/2 tsp cornstarch
1/2 tsp lemon juice
Food coloring -- red, green, yellow. Use a toothpick to add one drop at a time.

Makes 30 meringues. Bake at 250˚F

fun food recipe multicolored meringues1. Separate the eggs. Crack the eggs over a large bowl and separate the whites from the yolks. You only need the whites.

Separating an egg is easy once you know how. Have 2 bowls ready. Tap the egg firmly on the edge of one bowl so the shell cracks open. Let the egg white drop into one bowl and then tip the egg yolk into another bowl.
Whisk the whites. Whisk the egg whites to stiff peaks. Be careful not to overbeat, since they will start to look lumpy -- a little like cotton balls.

family fun children recipes2. Whisking egg whites is easiest using an electric mixer (always ask Mom or Dad), but try it with a hand whisk.

There are 3 stages to whisking egg whites. At first stage, the whites form soft, floppy peaks when the blades are lifted up. Continue whisking and they will form stiff peaks that stand straight up, perfect for meringues. If you whisk the egg for too long it becomes lumpy and overbeaten.

family fun food recipe meringues3. Add the sugar. Add 1 tsp of sugar to the egg whites; whisk. Pour in a second and continue whisking. Add remaining sugar, while whisking to stiff peaks.

recipe fun multicolored meringues4. Add lemon juice. Whisk in the cornstarch and lemon juice until just combined. The meringue should look smooth and glossy.

fun family food recipes5. Add a little color. Divide the meringue into 3 bowls and color each one with a couple of drops of food coloring. Fold the color in using a spatula.

meringues food fun recipes6. Make meringue swirls. Spoon the meringue into a piping bag and squeeze to make swirls onto 2 cookie sheets lined with parchment. Make each one about 1 inch across. Now bake in the oven.

recipes fun food children7. Bake the meringues for 30-35 minutes, until firm on the outside. Turn off the oven and leave them for a further 45 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool.

Piping tips: To fill the piping bag stand it in a tall glass and fold the edges down over the rim. For the swirls use a 1/2 inch tip.

Serving suggestions: When the meringues are cool, sandwich them together with whipped cream or softened vanilla ice cream.

Cheeseburger Pizza Pie - recipe - deliciouse!!

I ran across this recipe online - I had to share. I love Pizza, I can eat Pizza everyday of my life. When I was in high school, every day after school I would walk home and on my way - I would stop at my favorite pizza shop and have a slice.

But like I said - I ran across this and thought - man this sounds delicious!!

Cheeseburger Pie
By Anne Coleman

cheeseburger pizza recipesThe holiday rush is on and before you rush off to grab dinner at a not-so-cheap-or-healthy food joint, consider this quick and easy pie. Not only does it taste just like a burger from the local drive-through, it also happens to cost less per person; about $1.10 per serving. This was a winner with my entire family as long as I used the onion powder option over the real onion. Add a green salad rather than fries and a homemade milkshake for a dinner that's both fast and economical - and healthier than the alternative.

Hands-On Time: 15 minutes
Ready In: 30 minutes
Makes: 6 servings
Cost Per Serving: $1.10

Ingredients
1 can crescent rolls
1 pound ground beef
1/4 cup finely chopped onion OR 1 teaspoon onion powder
1/3 cup chopped dill pickle slices
2 Tablespoons ketchup
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
2 Tablespoons flour
2 Tablespoons dill pickle juice
2 Tablespoons milk
2 cups shredded American cheese, divided

Directions

Preheat oven to 375°.
Unroll crescent rolls and press into the bottom and up the sides of an 8 inch pie pan.
Cook ground beef in a skillet until browned. Drain well.
Stir in onion, chopped pickle, ketchup and mustard.
Sprinkle with flour and add pickle juice and milk. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly.
Remove from heat and add 1 cup of shredded cheese.
Pour into the prepared crust and bake for 15 minutes, or until edges of crust are golden brown.
Remove from oven and top with remaining cup of cheese. Let stand until cheese melts.
Garnish with extra ketchup, mustard and pickle slices.

Verizon wireless Price change - unlimited talk

Verizon has finally realized that despite the better service -money talks and bull walks.. well, in this case, the bad economy and hard times are more of a factor than better service.

People have been moving to Boost and Metro pc [ even if it is crappy service ] mainly because of the price. Also { I presume } in response to Sprints attempt to desperately keep it's remaining customers from leaving [ unlimited talk and everything low price campaign ] Verizon finally lowered some prices in it's price plan.

But is it enough?

New Changes to VZW

price plan change for: New name and price
single line - unlimited - "talk" @ $69.99
single line - unlimited - "talk and text" @ $89.99

* certain models require "data" feature with activation.
Data plans: $9.99 25 mb [ w/ email ] *(0.20 after allowed usage)
$29.99 unlimited [ w/ email ] *( can be placed on simple phone)

Family share Plan - unlimited - "Talk" @ $119.99 [2 phones]
family share plan - unlimited - "talk & text" @ $149.99
[ * add a line for unlimited is $49.99 up to 3 ]

Phone list / that require data plan minimum of $9.99
* Lg chocolate touch
* ENV3
* ENV Touch
* VX 8360
* Entice
* Rival
* Rogue
* Alias 2
* Twist

Plans that will be done away with:
Premium plan and connect plan * will be discontinued and will need to be changed by feb 1, 2010.
* the single 1350 min and family 3000 min plans disappear.

To be honest, I do not see any savings to the regular user. Those people that already were paying for unlimited talk or unlimited talk and text will see a savings. Other issues with these changes is the fact that all the cool phones people like are now required to have atleast a minimum data plan of $9.99.

Children, computer virus and planning MURDER

Children, computer virus and planning MURDER

I wrote in my last post about my computer getting infected with a virus, now as I sit here at work with the only computer I have access to for internet – I am thinking of planning [ yes premeditated ] Murder.

Normally I have all my files backed up – but hey it was Christmas, then new years – I have been busy so I didn’t back up or make copies of all the holiday pictures, videos and all the work I wasn’t suppose to do during the holidays. But now that my computer has this darn %#@&*+! Virus I can not even seem to save my pictures to cd. The virus lets my computer run a cd but when I go to copy to a clean cd, it says it can’t find it.

parenting controls computer onlineI know, I copy the files I have to run a virus scan on any copied information before I store it in another computer – but atleast I would have it copied.

Really, this bites and I am considering Murder – well at most a severe punishment. I can not believe this, I have even downloaded a new anti virus program into the computer but the virus overwrites it and I am in the same boat. I looked into a program that runs an anti virus program from a cd [so you don’t need to install ] but it’s expensive and I would hate it if it turned out not to work as well.

This truly bites, I am going to have to take this thing to an expert or just break down and buy a new computer that I will lock away from my children. No, really – some one told me I should have anti virus protection – and I did. This virus came in as a pop up [ from what I gather ] and my daughter click the ok button – anti virus can not protect you from yourself. The dumb thing is instead of telling me she continued to play with it so it was to late – back up or restore doesn’t work, the anti virus doesn’t work, can not even add a new anti virus………… #$@%^&*!!!!!!!!

children, computer virus and crash.....

Children and computer virus – didn’t you listen!?!

I am at work during my slow period of the day, writing this blog as a way of venting my frustration.

I like most parents have virus protection, parental guide on my computer and warn my kid all the time. I don not let her search the net nilly willy with no supervision – but – yes [ but means forget what I just said…] my wife has other methods.

Now I am not saying that my daughter goes online to sites that are inappropriate – but they do not realize that viruses can be found anywhere online. Apparently when I got home my computer was fried – some virus had infected it. How did I now, because my daughter asked me to help her turn off the computer because there was some pop up stopping her ???? How did I know It was infected – because I had several porno links with images on my desk top!

When I asked what she [ my daughter ] had done…. “me, nothing, I didn’t do anything..”

children protection onlineIt took about an twenty minutes for her to confess that she was downloading photos from facebook and searching Google for pictures. How many times do I have to tell these people not to do that – never, ever download pics from the internet, You can copy them but never download them. She accidentally downloaded the virus and accepted something online because my avg virus protection was removed [ that is the components to it ].

So here I am at work, after spending hours trying to fix my computer last night, trying to find away to fix my computer. Sure, I could take it to a computer shop and pay $100 plus dollars to get it fixed. I could even do like my wife suggest and buy a new computer, mines is four years old – but it’s the principal. I said not to do that, but no, they never listen and this time they really got burned. I should let them suffer without a computer for a month or so.

Ofcourse I don’t know if I could live without a computer for a month???

Why is the Government watching me and you

Why is the Government watching Me and you

I openly oppose the government - by that I mean, oppose big government.
I am not in favor of more and more government control. When I talk to people about my concerns about the government being too big, having too much control - I usually get that “he is crazy” look.

Well, four months ago my name was part of the census program thingy. Every month for three months the same guy shows up at my door asking me questions the government needs to know. For three months, every month - the same darn questions:

Who lives here?
How old are we?
Do we work?
How many hours do you work?
Do you have more than one job or PT job?

I was being nice, patient - I know that currently the jobs numbers are very important. The government wants to know who is working and who is not ??? Check the tax rolls fools…. But, again, I was being nice and even though it was getting on my nerves I did my best to answer the same questions over and over and over again.

government watching you citizensThen I received a letter, it was the United States of America, I was being told I had to take a survey or I may be jailed ??? I thought it was a scam and ignored it. Then came a second letter, they have been trying to reach me? Then it was a voice message - the government really wanted me to take this survey. I had had enough, I was not taking this survey. Yet the messages kept coming at weird hours of the day - my wife was starting to get nervous.

Finally, on Saturday January 2nd 2010 while I slept in, my wife passed me the phone, guess what - it was the "united states of America", the census wanting to talk to little old me. That I really needed to take this simple 20 min survey - what, ????

Tired, sleepy and upset at my wife for giving me the phone I said sure, might as well so they would stop bothering me.

Again - asking me the same old questions, do I still live at this address, how many kids, same job, how many hours - then it got strange…..

The government wanted to know what I was doing on my free time. Believe it or not - the young lady wanted to know what I did from 4 am Friday the 1st 2010 until 4 am sat. the 2nd 2010 ????? That is when I stopped being nice. What the hell, my attitude changed completely.

When I asked her why the government needed to know what I did on my free time and what relevance that had with the census - her reply was:

“ It is so we can make laws for the recreational time of retired, free time of workers such as parks and recreational enjoyment.”

What the ????

You [ the US government ] needs to know what I did yesterday on my free time so you can make laws?????

Let me see - so if I say I stayed home and watched TV all day - you wont build parks ???

What kind of stupid do you take me for?

Why do you need to know exactly what I did - then I really got mad, just to be a pain I said:
“ I woke up, played with my kids and watched TV - happy…”

But that wasn’t good enough, for some reason the government wanted more details and when I argued why - it was the same old rhetoric: We need it to help make laws for the recreational time of retired, working class and their free time.

After 10 minutes of arguing with her and no real answers - she asked me if I wanted to take the survey [ she should have asked that question first ] I said no, I don’t. She then said that it was helpful if I took the twenty minute survey but that is was ok - so I hung up….

Ofcourse my wife thinks the government may arrest me for not taking the survey but hey, I thought we lived in a free country?

Do you think I did wrong?
Would you have gladly told the US government what you did from 4 am to 4 am???
Do you even find it strange they wanted to know exactly what I did ???
