High Cholesterol Diet - too expensive …..

Image
High Cholesterol - 290 level..... when Diagnosed! As a parent I want to live long enough to see my children marry, have grandchildren and have them take care of me for a change. But when I was diagnosed with high cholesterol life pretty much changed for me. Ofcourse by my own choice. I gave up the French fries I love so much at Mcdonalds and cut much of the junk food I ate out. Started having more salads and healthy food - you know the kind that has no taste...... But with gas prices so high and that driving up prices on everything - it’s a bit hard to eat right. Going shopping can cost more than $130 dollars and that’s with out all the extra stuff I normally buy [ treats, candy, chips, food that taste good , etc. ] But I learned that I atleast don’t have to give up going to Mcdonalds. Yep - I may not have the number 1 meal [ Big Mac meal ] but I can have a healthy and tasty alternative - the Snack wrap [ I prefer the chelope BBQ grilled or crispy ] . Believe it or not it’s low on chol

Wii to get fit or just Dangerous

I like the Wii - I’m not a die hard fan of the console but it’s cute and kind of fun. But personally - I think their kind of Dangerous. Not because of the video I posted about the wii handle cracking open someone skull when it slip out of someone’s hand in a heated game. But because in the real world - people have been getting hurt. I had a friend break a finger because he got a bit involved in his baseball swing. I had a friend tell me her father injured his back trying to bowl a perfect strike. Heck, my brother-in-law owns a wii and my son smack me in the head while he was playing that boxing game. So yes, I think the Wii is a bit dangerous. Ofcourse now the have it - or should I say promote it as a way of getting people fit [ meaning exercise ]. Well let me say this - get might get a coach potatoes off their butt - but I wouldn’t call that much of a work out.

Comic book features HIV heroes

I love comics books, I have a large collection nicely stored away - but I don't think this is a good idea? May 8 - A comic book called "O+Men" features heroes with HIV in a bid to raise awareness of HIV. The comic book series neither disdains the heroes nor glamorizes them. Fred Katayama reports from New York. SOUNDBITE: Robert Walker, "O+MEN" Creator

Beef recall - did you know????

Beef Recall?? I love meat, meat is a major part of all my meals. In fact, my daughter tells me we are carnivore [ like dinosaurs ] because we prefer to eat meat all the time. So when I heard about this "beef" meat recall I wanted to know more. What I've learned concerns me more about what happened, how it was handled - more than the possibility of the meat tainted scare did. Consider this: This possible meat that is being recalled - goes as far back as 2006. * so much for quality controls..... Also, most of the meat went to schools. * Our system is so broken that the smallest and most defenseless of our society were in harms way and we didn't know it. The only reason this recall is public is because a video of the "fallen - unable to stand" cows was leaked to public. * I am no conspiracy junkie - but finding out that the only reason this - "the largest beef recall" ever was made only because a video was leaked to public is concerning. If i

The Future is here???? YUK!

Well, I guess all those years of Science Fiction Futuristic TV was not as bad for me as dear old mom said it would be. Think of it - cloning bodies, Frankenstein, Body snatchers, creating life in a lab, factory. Yes while the life that was created always turned out to be monstrous and destructive - it prepared open minded children to believe in the possibilities of science. Imagine, in today’s science were walking towards a future were you can grow transplant organs in a lab outside a body. The fear ofcourse is, that the same TV that spurred the minds of children to reach these lofty goals - are the same TV shows that showed us the moral and unpredictable problems of this science. One day it will be clone your pet, then separate organs, then an entire clone body. How do you deal with that? A separate human, clone, is it you, does it have life???? Does it have rights???? It has made for many a good movies - but what about real life?????

Pilates - not for me.....

I understand I am not in the best of shape, but I am not over wieght. so I thought it wouldn't hurt to do a bit of excersize. Boy was i wrong - i thought pilates would be something simple and easy, not so. This was for me - very difficult... Oh did I mention I can't do the superman..... you try it and see....

HangBags can be the Death of you...

HANDBAGS... I never gave it a thought. Who would have thought? Have you ever noticed gals who sit their handbags on public toilet floors - then go directly to their dining tables and set it on the table? Happens a lot! It's not always the 'restaurant food' that causes stomach distress. Sometimes "what you don't know 'will' hurt you"! Read on: It's something just about every woman carries with them. While we may know what's inside our handbags, do you have any idea what's on the outside? Women carry handbags everywhere; from the office to public toilets to the floor of the car. Most women won't be caught without their handbags, but did you ever stop to think about where your handbag goes during the day? "I drive a school bus, so my handbag has been on the floor of the bus a lot," says one woman. "On the floor of my car, and in toilets." "I put my handbag in grocery shopping carts, on the floor of the toilet whil

two-year-old girl who was born with eight limbs

Nov. 6 - Indian doctors are operating on a two-year-old girl who was born with eight limbs in southern Bangalore. Laxmi was born to a poor family in a village in Araria district in India's eastern Bihar city. The illiterate villagers first considered her as an incarnation of Hindu Goddess Laxmi but after some time they realised that she was not well and needed medical help. Just looking at this video saddens me. I can't help but wonder "what if".... What if that was me, my child, my niece, nephew.... Life can be wonderful and sometimes life can be cruel.
